6. Conclusion
For the past twenty years, researchers, consultants, local authorities, the European Union, ADEME... have been supporting CDUs. The failure of most experiments raises the question of whether this is a good idea at all.
6.1 Concept advantages
At least in theory, the concept offers significant economic and environmental benefits. The massification of goods flows increases the efficiency of collection and distribution processes, while at the same time reducing the environmental impact of urban delivery activities. By consolidating a variety of trips from one or more carriers into a single trip with better capacity utilization, using smaller or clean vehicles, noise and congestion in cities can be reduced, time saved and delivery made more reliable.
