3.1 Lessons from the GROOVES study
With GROOVES, PREDA ÎdF and its scientific partners set out to gain a better understanding of how green roofs work, with a view to advising designers and managers. In view of the scope of possible analyses, these initial conclusions offer only a glimpse into the subject.
Due to their height, limited surface area or limiting urban conditions (pollution, heat, etc.), roofs could appear inhospitable environments for living things. GROOVES shows, however, that species show an astonishing capacity for adaptation and colonization in these new urban ecosystems, which can serve as substitute habitats or refuges to complement other urban green spaces.
