ABSTRACT

Miniaturization is essential in microelectronics, in order to improve the performances of devices whilst at the same time decreasing production costs. The modeling of nanoobjects is thus promising for sectors such as lasers, new information, communication technologies and biodetection. This article starts by providing an overview of the evolution of nanotechnologies. The various devices implemented as well as the physical and technological limits of such modeling are then reviewed. Spontaneous self-organization or the application of quantum boxes are thus detailed.

 INTRODUCTION

The spontaneous emergence of forms in nature is a promising way of fabricating nanostructures for the technologies of the future, which will be used in fields as varied as lasers, new information and communication technologies, biosensing, quantum computers... To do this, we need to understand the nature of nanostructures, so as to set the right conditions for them to spontaneously produce the desired nanometric architectures, or molds.
