2. Defining the field of study

2.1 Systems and functions to be studied

Defining the scope of the study involves specifying the function(s) and product systems to be studied, including the processes linked to the product, service or process under consideration, in line with the objectives of the study.

Example

in the case of beverage packaging, the function may be "safe, clean storage of the beverage". When the objectives of the study specify additional criteria concerning the strength, type, weight and transport of the packaged beverage, the function should be completed: "the safe, clean storage of the beverage, combining pressure resistance and lightness".
