Calcium phosphate-based biominerals are found in all kingdoms of the living world , from bacteria to the most elaborate life forms. These calcium phosphates are often found in amorphous, intracellular form, with a rather ill-defined chemical composition. In vertebrates, however, they exist mainly in extracellular crystallized form, with an "apatite" structure (bones, teeth, fish scales, tusks, antlers, etc.)....
