All the biochemical pathways involved in the formation of organic molecules in living organisms. Enzyme catalysis plays a key role in biosynthesis.

primary metabolism; primary metabolism

A set of universal biochemical pathways essentially dedicated to energy production, anabolism and catabolism in a living cell. It is the metabolism that maintains cellular functions. The interconnected molecules are the primary metabolites.

specialized metabolism

All the small molecules (specialized metabolites, natural substances) produced in a specific way by certain living beings and by biosynthetic pathways that are also specific. These are, in particular, molecules that adapt to the environment (communication, defense, protection, etc.).
