Global level monitoring offers limited investigative possibilities. Overall levels are scalar indicators which are more or less sensitive to a large number of phenomena. On a machine with a relatively high normal vibration level, the development of a mechanical fault may be masked by "background noise". In this case, the overall level measured does not react to the fault, at least not at an early stage in its development....
