3. Modeling

There are two approaches to modeling tire/pavement contact noise (figure 14 ): deterministic physical models and statistical models. The input data for the model are generally the geometric and mechanical properties of the tire and the road surface. The model's output is an estimate of the noise level emitted either near the tire or at the track's edge, depending on the experimental method with which the model is compared.
