2. Fan types

According to an ISO 5801 definition, a fan is "a turbomachine which receives mechanical energy and uses it by means of one or more impellers in such a way as to maintain a continuous flow of air or other gas through it, the pressure rise of which does not exceed 30 kPa for a density of 1.2 kg/m 3 ".

Above 30 kPa, the machine is no longer a fan, but a blower or compressor [BM 4 500] . An ISO classification divides fans into three categories: low-pressure fans (total pressure up to 2 kPa), medium-pressure...
