1.1 Definition of a balanced network
A balanced network is one with at least one branch in which the current is zero. The resistance of this branch (referred to as the dead or sensing branch) can be changed without affecting the currents flowing in the other branches of the network.
The balanced network is referred to as a bridge when the equilibrium relationship concerns resistors only, and as a potentiometer when it concerns both resistors and electromotive forces.
