2. Measurement methods and instruments

Electric current can be measured by inserting a suitable device, an ammeter, in series with the circuit, or by applying a transformation using a current sensor (shunt, Hall-effect sensor, inductive sensor, current transformer).

Figure 5 illustrates the different measurement methods discussed in this chapter.
