5. Probing systems

A wide variety of probing systems are available to meet performance criteria such as accuracy, surface accessibility, automatic probe and stylus changeover, speed and density of acquired points.

A probing system is typically made up of one or more styli attached to a probe, which is itself attached to a support that can be oriented (orientation system). The assembly is connected to the measuring machine via a mechanical and electronic interface (figure 33 ).
