8. Photogrammetry, videogrammetry

These are the names given to techniques used to determine the dimensions, shape and positions of objects from photographed perspective views, a method very similar to triangulation.

8.1 Measuring principle

Photogrammetry is a measuring method that uses images (photographic or digital) taken from different angles to determine the dimensions, shapes or positions of objects. To do this, we use :

  • either calibrated cameras using flat, dimensionally stable silver film or CCD detectors for static measurements;

  • or cameras (film or CCD) if dynamic measurements are required (videogrammetry).
