2. Surface color measurement

2.1 Preamble

The purpose of this section is to provide the reader with information on color sensors. Since the 1960s, many companies have been equipping themselves with color sensors. The manufacturers who have left their mark on color history are mainly Hunterlab and Gretag Macbeth. Thanks to their experience, these companies continue to innovate. Datacolor International, thanks to its experience, has a strong presence in the textile world. Other manufacturers followed, such as Minolta, Zeiss and X-rite, which are also present in the textile world, but to a lesser extent. Our aim is to use a few simple diagrams to illustrate the different techniques and principles of color sensors.
