5. Applications
Applications are many and varied in the field of non-destructive testing of materials in the broadest sense, where the desired resolution range extends from 1 µm to around 1 mm. Depending on the application, acoustic microscopy analysis can be qualitative (usually amplitude images) or quantitative (acoustic signature). The means used to address the problems posed will be adapted for highly flexible use (variable frequency and bandwidth, different types of sensors, geometries, apertures and focal lengths, specific signal and image processing, etc.). The various applications will therefore be presented according to the field to which the specimen belongs.
