Rheology

Science of the flow and deformation of matter under the action of mechanical forces.

Viscosity ; Viscosité

Quantity that characterizes the ability of a material (fluid or paste) to flow, and links stress and strain rate. Depending on whether shear or extensional flow is being considered, the viscosity coefficient to be taken into account is either shear viscosity or extensional viscosity.

Viscoelasticity; Viscoelaticity

Property of a material that is both viscous and elastic. The elastic part relates to the energy stored reversibly and instantaneously in the material, under the action of mechanical stress. The viscous part relates to the energy dissipated by friction between layers of fluid.
