2. French calibration chain structure

Schematically, a calibration chain has three links: the national metrology institute LNM (or associated laboratory LA), a Cofrac-accredited laboratory and the end-user who takes the measurement (figure 1 ). In practice, this chain can be longer, depending on the type of user's instrument, and more branched for derived quantities that are connected to several base quantities.
