ABSTRACT

Temperature measurement requires an upstream reflection in order to determine a measurement chain. The choice of a measurement chain is based upon two sets of data: the identification of the issue that the temperature measurement attempts to address and the choice of the instruments adapted to this measurement according to the observed conditions and constraints. This article recalls, with a couple of definitions, the notions of temperature and thermal energy which are essential to the understanding of the process. It then provides an exhaustive list of the questions which have to be asked before proceeding to a measurement in order to ensure the sound usage of the instruments and a satisfactory result.
