2. Civil applications of aerial drones
Since the 2010s, many researchers, companies and governments have been developing drone projects to serve society and the environment. Section 2 presents some of the most significant and recent civilian applications.
2.1 Geological and environmental monitoring
Geological monitoring (figure 8 ) involves repeated measurements to detect long-term changes in natural environments such as seas, rivers, mountains, volcanoes and even the atmosphere. It is crucial for local, national and international authorities to have up-to-date information of this kind, so that appropriate prevention policies can be implemented.
