10. Class templates

The notion of a class pattern makes it possible to define what are also known as "generic classes". More precisely, a single definition with type and expression parameters is used to describe an entire family of classes; the compiler then builds (instantiates) the class(es) required for the application (these instances are often referred to as "pattern classes").

10.1 Definition

Type parameters are specified by preceding them with the keyword class, and expression parameters by specifying their type in a parameter list introduced by the word template (as with function templates, with the difference that here, all parameters — type or expression — appear).
