As a prime example, we have chosen a flexible production line. This choice illustrates the multiple uses of PLCs, and their flexibility of integration into a vast array of applications, where their essential role is not what immediately strikes the observer. Significantly, the major PLC manufacturers were quick to take an interest in this sector, and invested heavily in it. Schneider, for example, has an educational package of this kind in its catalog, and a subsidiary specializing in industrial installation.
