7. PROFINET with COM/DCOM

PROFINET's initial focus was on providing a solution for distributed automation (between programmable industrial controllers or between controllers and intelligent programmable field devices). PLCs or programmable I/O stations are assimilated to components, hence the name of the concept: Component Based Automation (CBA). The term PROFINET CBA is therefore used.

7.1 Component concept for machine modularization
