2.1 General principle
The principle of the ground-to-ground transmission network (TSS) chosen for Strasbourg's tramway line B consists in transmitting all the information required for the line's operation over an ATM backbone network:
telephone, SAI (Système d'aide à l'information) and public address (audio) services grouped together under the term low-speed network;
railway signalling, BMS (centralized technical management), energy and ticketing services grouped together under the LAN/Ethernet network;
video services with the video network.
