3.1 Samples

Samples and their preparation are a delicate part of the analytical procedure. A large number of parameters are involved in the sampling, sample shaping and sample surfacing processes, and their impact on assay quality should not be underestimated.

The spectrometrist must also take into account the origin of the metal, as a sample taken during the manufacturing process and a certified reference material are not completely similar in terms of structure and distribution of constituents. Each type of sample has its own specific characteristics.
