This category of analyzers no longer refers to dispersive systems where an ion beam passes from the source to the detector.

The operating principle of ion trapping devices is based on the temporary storage of charged species before their selective ejection towards a detector, or the modification of their trajectory to analyze their passage near signal collectors.
