3. Conclusion
ECL is a powerful analytical technique combining the advantages of electrochemical and photochemical techniques. In effect, the trigger for the process is electrochemical, while the analytical signal is luminous. In this article, we have tried to illustrate this point with some of our work in this fruitful duality of ECL between photochemistry and electrochemistry. Thanks to its sensitivity, ECL is widely marketed for high-throughput immunoassay. The study of the mechanisms involved and a detailed understanding of the complexity of ECL processes have enabled us to propose new analytical strategies or original objects fulfilling a detection function. In addition, the original coupling between ECL and EBP opens up a wide range of future applications in bioanalysis for real-time detection, more sensitive and multiplexed measurements, and imaging of molecular gradients.
