5. Allotment
Allotment is necessary when batches of the same color are received or dispatched and are likely to be assembled. In this case, we separate production runs, whose color deviations from type are all accepted, into batches of very similar colors.
Method 555 is the best known. It involves the manufacture of "boxes" which are placed side by side, dividing the CIELAB space around the type into sub-assemblies. These parallelepipeds are oriented either along the L*, a*, b* axes, as shown in figure 16 , or along the L*, C*, h axes. Each of these boxes is given a number.
