This article highlights the growing interest in integrated environmental monitoring, which involves interdisciplinary design and the formation of research groups for future campaigns, to promote rapid information exchange and synergies between individual disciplines.
A prophylactic health protection system should closely involve ecotoxicologists and medical doctors, and should be developed in an integrated approach rather than following parallel paths, as has been the case over the last twenty years. To this end, it would be interesting to examine ideas formulated in the past about combining geoscientific ecology and medical sciences, following the German tradition of landscape ecology
