Given the vast amount of work devoted to nanomaterial characterization, we have chosen to present just a few examples of applications illustrating the potential of the various analytical strategies described above.
4.1 Environment
Most of the studies reported in the literature concern the characterization of organic colloids (humic substances, alginate-type polymeric exudates) and inorganic colloids (particles) associated with trace metals and metalloids in surface water (fresh or marine), interstitial water (soil, sediment) or wastewater.
