1. Metrological traceability and specificities of chemical analyses
The main objective of metrology is to ensure the comparability of results. This can only be achieved if results can be traced back to established references.
Metrological traceability should not be confused with documentary traceability, as it is understood in certain sectors, which consists of tracing the history of a product or service back to its origin.
Metrological traceability characterizes the measurement result and enables it to be linked to a given, recognized reference.
This concept is widespread in many sectors of physical measurement (length, mass...). In most of these sectors, traceability schemes are clear and have been perfectly established for many years. This is not the case in the field of chemical analysis, where this notion is slow to take root....
