2.1 Principle
Ionizing treatment involves subjecting foodstuffs to gamma radiation (from cobalt 60), X-rays with energies of less than 5 MeV, or accelerated electron beams with energies of less than 10 MeV.
1 MeV = 10 6 eV; 1 e = 1.6 × 10 –19 joule
