2. Definitions of endocrine disruptors
Official definitions of endocrine disruptors vary from one international regulatory body to another. This creates difficulties of interpretation.
2.1 WHO definitions
"An endocrine disruptor is an exogenous substance or mixture that alters the functions of the endocrine system and therefore induces harmful effects on the health of an intact organism, its descendants or sub-populations".
This WHO definition has been temporarily taken over by the European Union.
