2. Direct one-variable methods

For these methods to be effective, the response function must be unimodal in the interval under study, i.e. it must present a single optimum. This is almost always the case, as the experimenter's control of the phenomenon generally places him/her in a restricted zone.

2.1 Sequential dichotomous method

This is the simplest intuitive method. To find a maximum, for example, it proceeds as follows (figure 2 )
