4. Adhesive bonding

4.1 How it works

This type of assembly, shown in figure 10 , is achieved by installing a controlled prestress in the bolts which, by compressing the elements to be assembled, creates frictional forces that oppose the relative sliding of the surfaces in contact, when the assembly is subjected to an external force F T perpendicular to the bolt axis.

Overall, the operation is very simple. If we note Q the tightening force of a bolt (prestressing), F T the force to be transmitted and f p the coefficient of friction between the parts :
