4. Conclusion
From the outset, the design of railway stations has been linked to the urban developments that accompany them. By virtue of their function and location, stations play a key role in urban metabolism, defined as the flows of people, goods, materials, energy and data that ensure the functioning of an urban complex in relation to the rest of the territory.
Today, in addition to the social and economic challenges of urban development, there are also environmental challenges. The city we design or transform for the future must not only be an engine of economic and social development, but also a "clean engine", with a controlled environmental impact, minimized resource consumption and carbon footprint, guaranteeing biodiversity and the health of its inhabitants.
