5. Examples of bioelectronic nose development
5.1 European Consortium
The European SPOT-NOSED projects followed by BOND provide an example of the development of bioelectronic noses, based on the use of olfactory receptors carried by natural nanosized liposomes (nanosomes) as sensitive elements of an electrochemical network, to specifically detect target odorants in complex environments. These projects have potential applications not only in medical diagnostics, but also in quality control in the cosmetics, agri-food, safety and environmental fields.
