9. Glossary – Definitions

Artifact: anomaly in an image, linked to its acquisition or image processing.

Backprojection: Radon projection performed in the space of projected images.

Compressed sensing: reconstruction method using an incomplete data set.

Compton (effect): mode of scattering of an X-ray photon by inelastic collision with an electron.

Transfer Function: ratio between the output signal and the input signal of a detector, in the space of spatial frequencies, i.e. the product of MTF and sensitivity (or gain).

Apodisation filter: FBP noise filtering.

Ramp filter: weighting coefficient introduced in the FBP method.

Binning: association of pixels in groups of 2 × 2, 3 × 3, etc.
