4. Relevance of blockchain technology for patient data security and control
Blockchain technology gives patients back the power over their healthcare data, and above all over the simple, secure self-management of their health. It has three objectives. Firstly, it aims to provide patients with a secure community of medical, family, friendly and collegial support. Secondly, through this community of support for therapeutic compliance, it aims to reduce multimorbidities, which are at the root of hospitalization, work absenteeism and death, among other things. Thirdly, it aims to offer a solution to the problem of access to health data currently facing health researchers in Quebec. An article by pediatricians Olivier Drouin and Samuel Freeman notes that "The RAMQ [Régie de l'assurance maladie du Québec] possesses a vast amount of data, but this is protected behind almost impenetrable bureaucratic ramparts, through the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec."...
