1.1 Marine energy transition

The role played by sea transport in the global economy is considerable : 90% of volumes transported and 80% of values transit by sea, which carries a total of almost 11 billion tonnes of goods a year, the main sea route being the one linking China to Europe via the Suez Canal. By comparison, air freight carries barely 2 million tonnes of merchandise a year in high-value products.
