2.1 Specific features of exterior wood finishes
Exposed to the elements, wood is subjected to the combined aggression of the sun, rain, humidity and cold. By forming a screen between the wood and this aggressive environment, finishes provide this essential protection, while enhancing the material's appearance.
Provided the structure and its environment lend themselves to it, a finish can be avoided by transforming the natural graying of wood into an aesthetic asset. Facades and roofs made of wood cladding or shingles are evidence of this, especially in rural areas. By treating wood with copper salts in an autoclave, this discoloration can be significantly slowed down.
