1.1 Structures
In the case of building materials, the study of material strength has made it possible to replace heavy, massive beams with profiled structures that are just as rigid, but lighter. In the same way, corrugated cardboard can replace a heavy solid board with several flat sheets held equidistantly by one or more corrugated spacers (figure 1 ):
the outer flat leaves are called covers;
The flat inner leaves are called medians;
the corrugated sheets forming the spacer are called flutes.
