4. Rheological properties of suspensions

The rheological behavior of nanocellulose suspensions is an important feature, because after fiber destructuring, gel-like behavior is observed, even at very low concentrations (typically 2%). The viscosity of the medium is therefore a good indication of the level of destructuring.

Cellulose nanoparticles have a high specific surface area, combined with a high density of surface hydroxyl groups that influence their interactions, either in the liquid state as a suspension, or in the dry state as a film.
