2. Enzymes of interest to the paper industry

Enzymes are proteins with metabolic activity. Enzymes used in wood biotreatment are naturally produced and secreted by micro-organisms growing on wood, such as the fungi and bacteria mentioned in the previous paragraph (§ 1 ). They can be used to replace certain chemicals thanks to their highly specific catalytic activity.
