1. General information on glass

In the text, we will systematically use the terms specific to the glass industry (composition, feeders), as defined in the introduction.

1.1 Glass product development

Thermal equipment is used to produce glass products at various stages of the manufacturing process:

  • melting furnaces produce the base glass from a mixture of raw materials (also called "composition");

  • conditioning channels (called "feeders") connect the melting furnace to the forming machines;

  • annealing furnaces or arches eliminate the thermal stresses generated during forming (known as spreaders in flat glass);
