1. Art ceramics
From a historical point of view, art ceramics are the oldest. It can be traced back to the Upper Paleolithic period (around 30,000 BC). The pieces that have come down to us are generally artistic objects, probably for votive purposes, with utilitarian uses only appearing in the Neolithic period (tableware).
These two purposes, artistic and utilitarian, are still present today, and the craft activity associated with these traditional ceramics should not be overlooked, as it generates a relatively large number of sales and jobs (around €250 million and 2,000 jobs in France): an objet d'art is commonly sold for several dozen or even hundreds of euros.
