2.1 Definitions

Early textile constructions (tents, traveling tents) used single-component fabrics, generally obtained by weaving cotton.

The characteristics of these fabrics were limited, both from a mechanical point of view and, above all, in terms of durability.

The boom in textile architecture in recent decades has been closely linked to the development of synthetic fibers. These textiles are composites characterized by a dissociation of functions: mechanical strength, and a watertight, protective wall.
