8. Glossary
Geomembranes: thin, flexible, continuous, liquid-tight products suitable for civil engineering, even under service deformations, mainly in tension. The watertightness of a membrane must be less than 0.1 l/d/m 2 under a hydraulic load of 100 kPa (excluding joints).
Geosynthetic: product in which at least one of the constituents is based on a synthetic or natural polymer (NF EN ISO 10318), in the form of a sheet, strip or three-dimensional structure, used in contact with soil or other materials, in the fields of geotechnics and civil engineering.
Geotextiles: flat, permeable polymer textile products (natural or synthetic), which can be non-woven, knitted or woven, used in contact with soil and/or other materials for geotechnical and civil engineering applications.
