3.1 Depending on production scale

The stakes involved in cotton production are linked to the level considered, from global to local. The focus here is on the global level, and on sub-Saharan Africa which, although it accounts for less than 5% of world production (table 2 ), is a long-standing area of cooperation for the Centre de coopération internationale en recherche agronomique pour le développement (CIRAD).

At the global level, the main challenges are :

  • the stability of cotton lint prices on the international market. The countries with the highest production (China, India)...
