1.1 Textiles and fibers
The word textile comes from the Latin verb texere, meaning to weave. Today, the adjective textile can be defined as: "that which is made up of or can be divided into fibers suitable for making cloth" (Larousse encyclopedia). Textile fibers are therefore the elementary entities with which textile products are made.
From the point of view of spinnability, the term used to qualify a fiber's ability to be transformed into yarn, fibers are characterized firstly by two parameters: i) fineness, given by the thickness of the fiber or, more generally, by its titre, which is nothing other than its linear mass, the unit of which is the tex (g.km –1 ) and ii) length, in the case of fibers of finite length....
