2. Conventional polymers for membrane production

A wide range of polymers with different properties can be used to manufacture liquid phase separation membranes. The main polymers used are listed in Table 3 , and their molecular structures are shown in Figure 4 . As a result, membranes can be manufactured with a wide variety of thermomechanical properties, surface properties (hydrophilic/hydrophobic balance, surface charge), morphology and thermal and chemical resistance. The choice of membrane material then depends on the properties required by the targeted application (table 3 ).
